Less Common FRP Applications: Aquaculture, Livestock, Floating Solar, EV Charging and More

Less Common FRP Applications: Aquaculture, Livestock, Floating Solar, EV Charging and More

In short: Beyond chemical plants and wastewater, FRP is used in many smaller markets: aquaculture tanks and walkways, livestock slats and fans, floating solar walkways, EV charging trench covers, telecom enclosures that radio waves pass through, rail cable troughs, and battery storage sites. The same three properties explain most of them: FRP does not rust, it does not conduct electricity, and it is light. The same limits also apply: check fire rules, stiffness and resin choice.

Less Common FRP Applications: Aquaculture, Livestock, Floating Solar, EV Charging and More – In short summary: key points at a glance

This page gathers the less common applications in one place, explains why FRP fits each, and links to the detailed guide where we have one.

Why FRP shows up in niche markets

  • Corrosion: wet, salty, ammonia-laden or chemically cleaned environments where steel rusts.
  • Electrical: non-conductive, so it suits areas near cables, batteries and chargers, and it is transparent to radio waves.
  • Weight: lighter than steel, useful on floating structures, roofs and remote sites.

Applications

Aquaculture and vertical farming

Fish and shrimp farms and indoor farms use FRP tanks, grating walkways and supports in constantly wet, sometimes salty conditions. See FRP in vertical farming and aquaculture.

Livestock farms

Ammonia and frequent washdown attack steel in pig and poultry houses. FRP slats, fans and odor control equipment are used. See FRP in livestock farms.

Floating solar

Floating PV arrays need walkways and cable supports that are light and resist water. See FRP for floating solar.

EV charging stations

Cable trenches between transformers and chargers need covers; FRP covers are non-conductive and light to lift. See FRP at EV charging stations.

Battery energy storage (BESS)

Cable trays, access steps and covers around battery containers. See FRP at BESS sites.

Telecom and 5G

FRP is transparent to radio frequencies, so it is used for enclosures and screens around antennas. See RF-transparent FRP enclosures and FRP for telecom infrastructure.

Rail and metro

Cable troughs, walkways and signage posts along track, where non-conductive materials help. See FRP for rail and metro.

Data centers

Non-conductive cable trays, rooftop grating and cooling plant. See FRP in data centers.

Pipeline and cable marker posts

FRP marker posts are flexible, do not rust and are not worth stealing for scrap. See FRP marker posts.

Semiconductor fabs

Exhaust ducts, scrubbers and tanks for corrosive fumes. See FRP in semiconductor fabs.

FAQ

Why is FRP used in aquaculture?

It does not rust in constantly wet, salty conditions, and it is light to install.

Can FRP be used near EV chargers?

Yes. FRP trench covers and cable supports are non-conductive. Check wheel loads if vehicles can drive over them.

Why is FRP used for 5G enclosures?

FRP is transparent to radio frequencies, so it can hide antennas without blocking the signal.

Is FRP suitable for floating solar walkways?

Yes. It is light and does not rust. Check UV protection and fixing to the floats.

Can FIBROVX make a custom FRP part?

Yes, FIBROVX makes FRP to order. Send drawings, environment, loads and any codes.
