FRP Process Towers: Absorption, Desulfurization and Drying Tower Types

FRP Process Towers: Absorption, Desulfurization and Drying Tower Types

In short: FRP process towers handle gas absorption, desulfurization and drying where steel would corrode. The catalog lists five types: desulfurization, absorption, packed drying, bubble-cap drying and combined packed/bubble-cap drying towers. They are built in all-FRP or with a PVC or PP liner inside an FRP structural wall, designed with finite element analysis, and referenced to HG 20640 (plastic equipment) and JC/T 587 (filament-wound tanks).

Five tower types

Tower types per catalog; internals shown are typical and confirmed per process.
Type Typical duty Internals
Desulfurization tower SO₂ removal from flue gas Spray levels, mist eliminator
Absorption tower Absorbing acid gas or fumes into a liquid Packing, distributors
Packed drying tower Drying gas with a liquid desiccant Packed beds
Bubble-cap drying tower Staged gas–liquid contact Bubble-cap trays
Combined drying tower Packing plus bubble-cap stages Packed and tray sections

Construction: FRP, PVC/FRP or PP/FRP

The lining and inner parts are chosen for the medium; the outer FRP layer carries the load. By changing the liner material, the resin and fiber of the structural layer and the lay-up, the tower is matched to the corrosive medium, temperature and pressure. Use the lining chemical resistance chart to shortlist the liner.

Design references

Per the catalog, PVC and PP linings and internals are made and inspected to HG 20640 (plastic equipment) and the outer FRP wall to JC/T 587 (filament-wound reinforced plastic tanks). Structural design uses finite element analysis for the operating temperature and pressure. Standards are named as design references.

Around the tower

Towers connect to FRP duct, FRP fans, mist eliminators and stacks. See FRP process towers and FRP desulfurization towers.

FAQ

What data do you need?

Gas flow and composition, liquid and its concentration, temperatures, pressure, required removal or dryness, and site limits on height and diameter.

Can you supply internals?

Yes: packing, distributors, trays and demisters are quoted with the shell.

Values in this guide are catalog design and selection references. Final sizes, laminate and performance are confirmed in writing in the quotation for your operating data.
